OH Ranch, Historic cattle ranch in Alberta, Canada
OH Ranch is a cattle ranch near Longview that spreads across grassland, aspen forests, and willow areas. The land serves as habitat for diverse wildlife while continuing active livestock operations.
The ranch was established in 1881 when Orville Hawkins Smith and Lafayette French began cattle operations along the Highwood River. The OH brand was registered in 1883 during Western Canada's early settlement period.
The North-West Mounted Police maintained a station at the ranch until 1900, contributing to law enforcement during Western Canada's settlement period.
Visitors need a Kananaskis Conservation Pass for parking. Some areas may be restricted due to active livestock operations taking place on the property.
The southern portion of the land was donated to the Calgary Stampede Foundation in 2012. At that time, this gift represented the largest donation in the foundation's history.
