Foothills County

Foothills County is a municipal district in southern Alberta positioned between Calgary and the Rocky Mountains. The landscape features rolling hills and grasslands where farming and ranching remain the primary activities.

The district began as Foothills No. 31 before taking on its current form as a municipal entity. Growth was driven by farming and ranching opportunities in this region near Calgary.

The rhythm of farming life shapes how communities here gather and celebrate together through seasonal markets and county events. These activities keep agricultural traditions at the center of local identity.

The area is easiest to reach from Calgary, with roads connecting to the various hamlets and rural areas throughout. Spring through fall offers the best conditions for exploring the landscape and attending local events.

The district contains eight separate hamlets including Heritage Pointe and Millarville, each with its own distinct character and feel. This scattered pattern of small communities creates a patchwork of different local identities.
