Corbet's Couloir, Expert ski run at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming, United States
Corbet's Couloir is an expert ski run at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort featuring a narrow entrance flanked by rock faces on three sides. The rocky gap widens into a broader descent after the steep initial section.
Mountain guide Barry Corbet identified and named this natural snow funnel formation in the area. In 1967, ski patroller Lonnie Ball became the first person to descend it successfully.
This run holds deep meaning for expert skiers worldwide, serving as a test of skill and courage that defines a certain level of mountain experience.
Riders reach the run via the Rendezvous Tram from the summit, where a mandatory entry drop awaits. The drop height changes with snow conditions, typically ranging from 10 to 20 feet depending on seasonal accumulation.
The natural shape of the couloir creates a protected powder snow pocket sheltered from wind and sun year-round. This feature keeps the snow quality remarkably consistent across different seasons.
