The Hunter Hereford Ranch Historic District contains multiple log buildings, including barns, sheds, and residences spread across 160 acres beneath Shadow Mountain.
James Williams established the original homestead in 1909, and William and Eileen Hunter later transformed it into a developed ranch during the 1940s.
The property served as a filming location for multiple productions, including The Wild Country and the 1963 film Spencer's Mountain.
The National Park Service manages the district, which includes structures designed by architect Eber E. Piers and constructed by local Nelson brothers carpenters.
The ranch territory contains uncommon areas of sagebrush-free pasture, setting it apart from other properties in the eastern portion of Jackson Hole.
