Bozeman is the county seat of Gallatin County in southwestern Montana, surrounded by mountain ranges including the Bridger Mountains to the north. The town sits at 1461 meters elevation in a wide valley with views of several peaks.
John Bozeman founded the settlement in 1864 as a trading post along the Bozeman Trail in an area known as Valley of the Flowers. Montana State University opened in 1893 and transformed the town into an educational center.
