Black Elk Peak, Highest peak in South Dakota
Black Elk Peak, formerly known as Harney Peak, is located in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
The mountain was renamed in 2016 to honor the Oglala Lakota holy man, Black Elk.
It is considered a sacred site by many American Indians, particularly the Lakota Sioux.
The peak is accessible by hiking trails and offers expansive views of the surrounding landscape.
At 7,244 feet, it is the highest point east of the Rocky Mountains in the United States.
