Stewart, District municipality in northwestern British Columbia, Canada.

Stewart is a district municipality at the head of Portland Canal in northwestern British Columbia, serving as Canada's northernmost ice-free port. The location sits adjacent to Alaska's Misty Fiords National Park and faces the coastal mountains.

The Nisga'a people originally called the area Skam-A-Kounst and gathered berries and hunted birds there seasonally. European settlement later transformed it into a trading center tied to the region's natural resources and shipping routes.

The municipality maintains local traditions through regular community meetings, water system management, and implementation of development plans for its 517 residents.

Visitors reach the location via Highway 37A from British Columbia's main road network, by boat through Portland Canal, or by air through the local airport. Travelers should prepare for remote conditions and limited services in the area.

Exterior scenes from John Carpenter's film The Thing were filmed at nearby Salmon Glacier. This unexpected connection to cinema history draws film enthusiasts to the remote location.
