Ancient Forest/Chun T'oh Whudujut Provincial Park and Protected Area, Provincial park and protected area in Fraser-Fort George, Canada.
Ancient Forest/Chun T'oh Whudujut is a protected park that preserves an inland temperate rainforest in central British Columbia. The forest contains massive western redcedar trees that grow to exceptional widths, along with multiple waterfalls and creeks winding through the dense vegetation.
The site gained official provincial park status in 2016, marking a turning point in its protection. The following 2018 saw a management agreement established with the Lheidli T'enneh Nation, creating a partnership that shapes how the park is cared for today.
The Lheidli T'enneh Nation has deep roots here, having used this forest area for seasonal gathering and fishing camps for countless generations. Today, the park operates under a shared management approach that honors this ongoing connection to the land.
A boardwalk accessible to most visitors winds through the ancient trees, making it easy to experience the forest without extensive hiking. Additional trail options extend into deeper parts of the park for those seeking longer walks among the tall growth.
This location holds the only temperate rainforest found inland on the North American continent, far from the coastal regions where such forests typically occur. Some of the cedar trees here may have stood for over a thousand years, making them living records of an exceptionally rare forest type.
