Winfield, County seat in South Central Kansas, United States.

Winfield is a county seat in South Central Kansas that spreads along the Walnut River with a central business district. Residential neighborhoods surround the downtown area where government offices and local commerce operate.

Reverend Winfield Scott received naming rights in 1870 in exchange for his commitment to build a church for the community. The settlement grew into a transportation hub as railroad lines became established in the area.

The Walnut Valley Festival draws musicians and audiences each September for bluegrass and acoustic music performances at several outdoor locations. This multi-day event has become an important gathering place for music lovers throughout the region.

The city sits in a flat region with a moderate climate and is easy to explore by car. Visitors find accommodations and dining options downtown and can drive through different neighborhoods on existing streets.

Five different railroad lines ran through Winfield during its development, establishing it as a transportation center. These rail connections shaped the city's layout and remain visible in its structure today.
