Qal’at al Bahrain

Qal'at al Bahrain is an archaeological site near Manama where excavations have revealed multiple layers of ancient settlements piled on top of each other. The exposed sections show structures, tools, and remains from different periods of occupation.

The site began as a settlement around 4,300 years ago and was repeatedly rebuilt and reshaped by new inhabitants over many centuries. Portuguese soldiers added military structures in the 1500s, adding another chapter to its long story.
