Pacaraima, Border municipality in Roraima, Brazil
Pacaraima is a municipality in Brazil's northernmost state, situated at 920 meters elevation along the border with Venezuela. The landscape varies across the region, with dense vegetation and terrain that reflects the natural transition between different ecosystems.
The municipality was created in 1995 through the division of Boa Vista territory and was officially established by State Law Number 96 on October 17 of that year. This marked the formation of a new administrative unit in Brazil's northernmost region.
The Micaraima festival takes place on the first weekend after Carnival, while the Padroeiro celebration occurs annually on October 4.
Travelers access this municipality via the BR-174 highway, a paved road that connects it to Boa Vista over 220 kilometers. Regular bus services operate along this route, making travel to this border location reasonably accessible.
The Pedra Pintada archaeological site, featuring ancient rock inscriptions, sits near where highways BR-174 and RR-400 intersect. These carvings provide evidence of human activity in this border region from ancient times.
