Republikdenkmal, Republic memorial in Innere Stadt, Austria.

The Republikdenkmal displays three bronze busts of social democrats mounted on pedestals in front of tall granite blocks at Dr.-Karl-Renner-Ring. The names Jakob Reumann, Victor Adler, and Ferdinand Hanusch are carved into the stone structure.

The memorial was created to mark the Republic's proclamation in 1918 and was first unveiled in 1928. Following damage during the Second World War, it was rebuilt in 1948.

The inscription marking the Republic's founding on November 12, 1918 draws annual flower tributes on this date, showing how the public still honors this moment in Austrian history. The three busts depict politicians whose names remain recognized in local memory.

The monument stands on an elevated platform reached by three steps, making it clearly visible from street level. Its location on Dr.-Karl-Renner-Ring provides an open, easy-to-find spot for visitors.

In 1961 an explosion damaged the back of the monument, possibly carried out by activists connected to South Tyrol independence movements. This incident reveals how the memorial became a flashpoint for political tensions across the decades.
