Red Bull Ring, Motorsport racing track in Spielberg, Austria
The Red Bull Ring is a motorsport racing track in Spielberg, Austria, measuring 4318 meters in length with ten corners spread across multiple elevation changes. The facility features three dedicated left-hand turns and is designed for various racing categories, from Formula 1 to motorcycle events.
The facility opened in 1969 as the Osterreichring and was rebuilt in the 1990s as the A1-Ring. Red Bull acquired the site in 2011 and renovated the track completely for modern racing.
The first corner carries the name Niki Lauda Turn in memory of the Austrian driver who won his home Grand Prix here in 1984. Fans from the region often gather at this corner to celebrate motorsport and experience the tradition of Austrian racing history.
The track can be used in different configurations for different racing categories. Since 2022 a special layout with an added chicane for motorcycle events has been used to improve safety.
The circuit holds the record for the shortest qualifying lap in Formula 1, set by Valtteri Bottas in 2020 at 1 minute and 2.939 seconds. This time shows how compact and fast the track is despite its technical demands.
