Ferry-Dusika-Hallenstadion, Indoor velodrome in Leopoldstadt, Vienna, Austria.
Ferry-Dusika-Hallenstadion is an indoor sports hall in the Leopoldstadt district of Vienna, built around a 250 m (820 ft) wooden cycling track used for track cycling events. A 200 m (656 ft) running track inside the hall allows it to host athletics competitions as well.
The hall opened in 1976, replacing an older cycling track that had stood next to the Prater Stadium since 1931. It was built as part of a broader renewal of sports venues across Vienna during that period.
The hall takes its name from Ferry Dusika, a Viennese track cyclist who won multiple world titles in the motor-paced discipline during the 1930s and 1940s. Visitors today can still see the two competition tracks that share the same floor space, which reflects the building's original dual purpose.
The hall sits right next to the Stadion stop on the U2 metro line, making it easy to reach from the city center. On event days, arriving a little early is a good idea since the area around the entrance tends to fill up quickly.
The hall is one of very few venues in the world to have hosted both a track cycling world championship and a European athletics championship, staging the 1987 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and the 1979 European Athletics Indoor Championships. Both competition tracks are still in place inside the building today.
