Altlerchenfeld Church, Parish church in Neubau, Austria.
Altlerchenfeld Church stands at Lerchenfelder Straße with a neoclassical design featuring symmetrical proportions, columns, and a grand entrance portal. The building has a broad nave lined with evenly spaced columns that draw the eye toward the altar area.
Construction of the church began in February 1848 under Paul Sprenger's direction, but the Hungarian Revolution events interrupted the work and led to changes in the original design. This turbulent period shaped the final architectural form of the building.
The interior walls display extensive artwork depicting scenes from Jesus' life, with sculptures by Johann Preleuthner and decorative elements by Josef Gasser enriching the space. This artistic program shapes the prayer space to this day and gives visitors a sense of the artistic vision of the 19th century.
The church is located at Lerchenfelder Straße 103-109 and welcomes visitors during opening hours to explore its architecture and artworks. It is best visited on weekends or weekdays when services are not in progress.
The organ was originally built by Alois Hörbiger in 1860 and underwent major modifications by Philipp Eppel in 1964 to expand its capabilities. This transformation shows how the instrument adapted to changing musical needs across a century.
