Argentor-Werke Rust & Hetzel, Protected industrial building in Neubau, Vienna, Austria.
Argentor-Werke Rust & Hetzel is a protected industrial building on Kaiserstraße 83 in Vienna's seventh district, Neubau. The facade features large divided glass windows set into solid wall sections, a design typical of factory buildings from the early 20th century.
The company was founded in 1902, taking over from its predecessor C. A. Munchmeyer & Co. It grew into a steady supplier of metal goods for European markets, selling to both merchants and private households with means.
The name "Argentor" draws from the Latin word for silver, hinting at the metalware the factory once produced there. Today, the building stands in a mixed residential and commercial street, where its large glass windows and solid facade make it stand out among the surrounding buildings.
The building sits on Kaiserstraße near Wimbergergasse and is easy to see from the street as you walk by. Since it is a protected monument, the interior is not open to visitors, but the facade can be viewed at any time from the pavement.
The company worked with glassmaker Joh. Loetz Witwe to produce glass objects fitted with metal mounts, combining two separate crafts into a single finished piece. This kind of cross-workshop collaboration between two Vienna producers was not common practice at the time.
