Säuling, Alpine peak between Schwangau, Germany and Pflach, Austria

Säuling is an Alpine peak located on the border between Germany and Austria with a distinctive pyramid shape. The mountain rises to around 2000 meters and forms a prominent landmark in the Ammergau Alps landscape.

The mountain served as a natural boundary between regions for centuries and appears in historical records as an important orientation marker. Its position along the dividing line influenced territorial development between Bavaria and Tyrol.

Mountain communities have long relied on these slopes for grazing and trade, creating a living connection between the region's people and the land. The huts along the paths reflect this practical relationship with the landscape.

Two main routes lead to the summit: one from the north via Hohenschwangau and one from the south via Pflach, with both trails secured by metal ropes on steep sections. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and bring adequate water for the climb.

The summit features two distinct peaks separated by a saddle, allowing hikers to experience different viewpoints from each side of the ridge. This unusual double-summit formation creates an interesting perspective on the surrounding landscape.
