5 Fingers, Mountain observation deck in Obertraun, Austria.
5 Fingers is an observation platform jutting out from a mountainside at approximately 2,100 meters (6,890 feet), extending over the Hallstatt valley and surrounding peaks below. The structure consists of five individual fingers, each offering distinct views from slightly different angles.
The platform was built in October 2006 and marked the start of a new form of alpine tourism in this region. Since then, it has become a recognized attraction for visitors to the Dachstein area.
Each of the five extended platforms presents different viewing experiences, including a glass floor section and a classical picture frame overlooking Hallstatt.
You reach the platform by taking the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car and then following a hiking trail with information signs to the viewing point. The path is well-marked and takes about thirty minutes to walk.
One of the five fingers features a transparent glass section through which visitors can look straight down, creating an intense experience for those who dare to step on it. This detail makes the platform memorable for many people.
