Ramsau am Dachstein, Alpine municipality in Liezen district, Austria.
Ramsau am Dachstein is an Alpine village municipality in Austria, situated on a high plateau between the Dachstein mountains and the Enns valley. The settlement spreads across meadows and forests at around 1,100 meters elevation, with open views toward the surrounding peaks.
The village was first documented around 1120 and developed under the control of Admont and St. Peter's abbeys during medieval times. It gradually became an important settlement for farming communities in the Alpine region.
The community maintained its Protestant faith through centuries, setting it apart in a predominantly Catholic Alpine region. You can still sense this religious heritage today in the local church and the way residents live.
A local Tourist Office provides information about lodging and activities, and manages the Sommercard for visitors. This card grants access to various regional attractions and services during the summer season.
In 1999, the International Ski Federation selected this location for the Nordic World Ski Championships because the terrain suited cross-country skiing perfectly. This event brought international recognition and showcased the area's importance for winter sports.
