Sigmund Freud Museum, Biographical museum in Alsergrund, Vienna, Austria
The Sigmund Freud Museum sits at Berggasse 19 in a multi-story residential building where the physician ran his practice and lived with his family. The rooms display furniture, documents and personal objects from that period.
The physician moved into the apartment in 1891 and worked here until his departure in 1938. In these rooms he developed his theories on psychoanalysis that changed understanding of the human mind.
The rooms carry the name of their former occupant, who received patients here and wrote his works. Visitors today see photographs on the walls showing Freud with his family and colleagues.
The house opens six days a week, with Tuesday as the day off, and offers guided tours in several languages. Visitors should note that the rooms sit in a historic residential building and are reached by stairs.
A digital reconstruction shows the famous couch where patients lay during sessions, though the original was taken to London. Visitors can understand through this display how the room once looked.
