Feuerkogel, Mountain summit in Gmunden District, Austria.
The Feuerkogel is a mountain summit in the Höllengebirge range that marks the eastern boundary between Lake Attersee and Lake Traunsee. The peak sits at an elevation that provides views across this region where two major lakes meet.
A cable car system was constructed in 1927 from Ebensee to make the mountain more accessible. A ski lift was installed in 1936, establishing the site as a destination for mountain sports.
The summit hosts an annual mountain race each August that brings runners and spectators together to experience the alpine landscape. This event has become an important gathering for the local community and visiting athletes.
You can reach the summit comfortably using the cable car from Ebensee, which is accessible to everyone. At the top you will find viewing areas and a restaurant where you can rest and eat.
In 1997 the European Mountain Running Championships took place here, highlighting its importance for mountain sports. This event brought international attention from the mountain running community.
