Alberfeldkogel, Mountain summit in Salzkammergut, Austria
Alberfeldkogel is a mountain summit in the Salzkammergut region that reaches 1,707 meters in elevation. A climbing route with steel cables runs along the northeastern edge, designed for those seeking a challenging ascent.
The climbing route was established in 2011 through a partnership between the municipality of Ebensee, the Naturfreunde organization, and the HTL Wels technical school. This project introduced a new climbing opportunity to the mountain.
The summit cross displays stones from different European Union countries, creating a symbol of continental connection at high altitude. Visitors notice this monument as a representation of shared European values placed on the mountain.
The easiest approach is taking the Feuerkogel cable car from Ebensee, then following a marked trail to the climbing route entrance. The route itself demands experience and proper equipment, so preparation beforehand is important.
The climbing route spans 400 meters with 140 meters of elevation gain and offers views of Lake Traunsee and the Dachstein area along the way. This combination of technical challenge and scenery makes the route particularly appealing.
