Grünalmkogel, Summit in Salzkammergut region, Austria
Grünalmkogel is a mountain in the Höllengebirge range located in the Salzkammergut region. The terrain is rugged with unmarked paths in many places, and the landscape opens to wide views across the region from higher elevations.
A summit cross was installed at the peak in 2017, marking this location for hikers visiting the mountain. This addition made the summit more recognizable and served as a landmark for those reaching the top.
The mountain forms part of the E4 Cyprus-Tarifa long-distance hiking trail, connecting local communities through established Alpine hiking traditions.
Access starts from valley locations, and visitors should bring sturdy footwear and weather-resistant clothing for the hike. The mountain requires hiking experience and good preparation for changing conditions on unmarked terrain.
From Weißenbach am Attersee, the Gimbach Kaskaden loop extends 16.4 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1,280 meters to reach the summit.
