Composition hut of Gustav Mahler

The wooden composing hut contains three windows, a door, a table, a chair, a stove, and a piano, situated near the shores of Lake Attersee.

Architect Johann Lösch constructed this small cottage in 1894 for Gustav Mahler, who completed his Second and Third Symphonies during summer stays until 1896.

The permanent exhibition features six wall displays covering Mahler's life chronology, his years at Attersee, and the impact of natural surroundings on his music.

The composing hut remains open throughout daylight hours all year, offering free access to visitors without requiring advance registration.

After Mahler's departure, the structure served various functions including a washing house and a slaughterhouse before becoming a memorial site in 1985.
