Kleiner Schoberstein

Kleiner Schoberstein is a forested summit in the Salzkammergut region, featuring a steep trail that winds through dense vegetation to reach its peak. From the top, hikers can see across the valley to nearby lakes and mountain ridges.

Local communities have used these hills for forestry and agriculture for several hundred years, establishing traditional routes through the landscape. The area became popular for hiking when transportation improved in the 20th century.

Local mountaineering clubs organize regular guided ascents to Kleiner Schoberstein, maintaining traditional Alpine climbing practices throughout the seasons.

The trail starts in the valley and climbs steeply throughout, so sturdy hiking boots are essential for secure footing on the path. Starting early in the day gives you plenty of daylight to complete the hike safely.

On clear days, the summit offers a view of the neighboring Großer Schoberstein and reveals the full mountain landscape around you. This vantage point also shows the lake-filled valleys below, stretching far into the distance.
