Church of Saint Mary of the Victory

The Church of Saint Mary of the Victory is a Gothic Revival building featuring an octagonal floor plan supported by eight central pillars and ringed by small chapels. The structure rises to about 68 meters with its dome and stands as a distinctive landmark in the district.

Designed by Friedrich von Schmidt, the architect of Vienna City Hall, the building was constructed between 1868 and 1875 during a period of urban growth. This church was built to serve the expanding population of the district during the city's rapid development in the 19th century.

The building has served the Coptic Orthodox community since 2015, making it a place where different Christian traditions coexist in the neighborhood. Visitors can experience how this shift reflects the changing religious landscape of the city.

The interior is fairly accessible with clear sightlines from different positions due to the octagonal design. Visitors should remember this is an active place of worship and respectful conduct is expected at all times.

A large organ built by Steinmeyer in 1873 with 24 registers remains in the church and demonstrates 19th-century craftsmanship. This instrument is remarkably well-preserved and adds to the acoustic character of the space.
