Monument against war and fascism, Memorial site at Albertinaplatz, Innere Stadt, Austria
The Monument Against War and Fascism features multiple sculptures, including the Gate of Violence made from granite blocks extracted from Mauthausen concentration camp.
The memorial stands where the Philipphof building was destroyed by bombs in 1945, resulting in hundreds of civilians losing their lives in the basement shelter.
Created by sculptor Alfred Hrdlicka in 1988, the memorial includes bronze figures depicting Jewish persecution and represents different groups targeted during the Nazi regime.
Located opposite the Burggarten near Vienna State Opera, the memorial offers wheelchair accessibility and includes informational plaques in multiple languages.
The right column portrays a woman giving birth, representing Austria's rebirth after the war, while incorporating stone from an actual concentration camp quarry.
