Sender Pfänder, Radio transmission tower in Lochau, Austria
Sender Pfänder is a broadcasting facility on the Pfänder mountain in Vorarlberg, consisting of a steel tube mast with a surrounding lattice structure. The installation distributes radio and television signals across the border region between Austria and Germany.
The broadcasting facility was constructed in 1955 and began operations in 1958 to serve growing demand for radio and television transmission in the region. Over the following decades, the installation underwent modernization to support new technologies.
The facility contributes to media diversity in the border region between Austria and Germany, transmitting radio and television programs to communities across three countries.
The facility is visible from various viewpoints on the Pfänder mountain and plays a key role in supplying broadcast signals to the entire border region. Visitors can observe the transmission installation from several locations on the mountain.
In 2012, the tower underwent modernization with the replacement of its GFK cylinder, enabling additional DVB-T multiplexes for enhanced broadcasting capabilities.
