St. Peter im Moos, Gothic parish church in Winzendorf-Muthmannsdorf, Austria
St. Peter im Moos is a Gothic parish church in Winzendorf-Muthmannsdorf with a rectangular tower and frescoes in the choir area. The building features stained glass windows by Tyrolean artisans from the 1940s and an organ built by Franz Capek in 1901.
The building was founded in 1136 by the nobleman Adalram von Waldeck. In 1662 the church came under the management of Cistercian monks from Neukloster monastery.
The interior displays medieval wall paintings and a decorated stone pulpit showing the evangelists. These artworks shape the space and reflect the religious artistic traditions of the region.
The church sits on Kirchenstraße 2 and belongs to the Diocese of Vienna with regular services held here. Visitors should note that concerts from the Lower Austrian Master Concert series take place in the building, which is a protected monument.
The church site may rest on a pre-Christian Celtic sanctuary, with a stone circle beneath the building. This location could have once served as a sacred water source.
