Gailtaler Polinik

The Gailtaler Polinik is a mountain in the Carnic Alps that rises to 2,332 meters with steep descending slopes on multiple sides. The summit stands prominently visible from the Gail Valley below.

This peak has served as a natural boundary between Austria and neighboring Alpine regions since modern borders were established in the mountain territory. Its role as a frontier marker shaped its geographical importance over time.

Local mountaineering clubs organize regular group expeditions to the summit, maintaining traditional climbing routes and sharing knowledge with new generations.

The ascent from Plöckenhaus takes roughly 6 hours round trip and requires hiking gear and adequate water supplies. The route demands physical endurance and proper mountain preparation.

On clear days, the summit allows views of both the Adriatic Sea and the Eastern Alps, connecting two distinct geographic areas. This rare visibility range makes the location especially rewarding for observers.
