Schneealpenhaus, Mountain hut in Neuberg an der Mürz, Austria
The Schneealpenhaus sits at 1788 meters elevation on Schauerkogel peak in the Mürzsteger Alps and accommodates up to 40 mountain visitors. The facility offers double rooms and dormitories for overnight stays.
The refuge was founded in 1925 by the Austrian Alpine Association and has served hikers as a mountain shelter ever since. It has maintained its traditional role through the decades.
The kitchen here prepares traditional Austrian dishes using local ingredients and avoiding artificial additives. Visitors experience the genuine hospitality of a mountain hut where hikers and climbers meet and share their day on the trails.
The facility is open from May through October and requires advance reservations and sleeping bags for overnight stays. Visitors should prepare for high-altitude hiking as access is challenging without proper equipment.
The hut has a winter shelter on its veranda that stays accessible year-round with seating for about 50 people. This protected area allows visitors to sit outside and enjoy the mountain views even during cold months.
