Schloss Hackledt is a late-medieval core building with an almost square ground plan, extended westward in the mid-17th century by a rectangular annex. It sits on an earthen cone surrounded by a filled-in ditch, covered by a steep roof hipped at the rear. Inside are beamed and stucco ceilings and a ribbed vault in the corridor; a projecting bay remains on the west side.

Schloss Hackledt was the ancestral seat of the Hackledt family, documented from 1377 until the end of the 18th century; the village itself is first mentioned in 1396. From 1664 Johann Georg von Hackledt (1611–1677) enlarged the small residence, filled in the moat and added a baroque chapel to St. James and St. Anne. In 1779 the Innviertel passed to the Habsburgs after the Peace of Teschen, and in 1839 Johann Nepomuk von Peckenzell sold the estate to Stift Reichersberg for 27,000 Gulden.

The village of Hackledt is first documented in a 1396 arbitration ruling, and the castle was the uninterrupted seat of the Hackledt family from 1377 until the late 18th century. Michael Wening noted in 1721 that the seat and castle had belonged to the von Hächledt family for time immemorial. The castle chapel, installed during the 1664 baroque remodelling, is dedicated to St James and St Anne.

The castle sits in a rural area and is best reached by car since public transportation is limited here. Allow extra time for local roads when driving and check ahead, as the building is not always freely accessible.

The castle's west wing retains a projecting bay window from the 1664 baroque rebuilding, when Johann Georg von Hackledt filled in the moat and added an extension. The interior has beamed and stucco ceilings, and the corridor features a net-ribbed vault. Since 2023, the ground around the south and west sides has been lowered to keep the building dry.
