Heilige Jungfrau Maria von Zeituon Kirche, Vienna

The Coptic Church of the Virgin Mary of Zeitoun is a three-nave basilica with two towers marking its front facade and three apses at the rear. It functions as the episcopal seat for the Coptic diocese of Austria and German-speaking Switzerland.

Pope Shenouda III laid the foundation stone in 1998 and the church was consecrated in 2004 to serve the expanding Coptic community in Austria. It has since become an important religious center for believers from the region.

The wooden iconostasis and carved pews inside reflect Egyptian craftsmanship and traditional Coptic artistic patterns. These handmade details connect the congregation to their origins in North Africa.

The church is located at Quadenstraße 4-6 in Vienna's 22nd district and is easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors should wear respectful clothing and observe quiet behavior, as it is an active place of worship for the community.

The church's name references the 1968 Marian apparitions at the Church of Zeitoun in Egypt, witnessed by hundreds of thousands of people. This spiritual connection makes the Vienna church a symbol of Coptic tradition and its global presence.
