Heilige Jungfrau Maria von Zeituon Kirche, Vienna, Coptic church in Hirschstetten district, Vienna, Austria

The Coptic Church of the Virgin Mary of Zeitoun is a three-nave basilica entered by a staircase, with two towers flanking the entrance front and three apses at the rear. Its interior furnishings were made in Egypt: the wooden iconostasis and carved pews come from the Monastery of St. Barsum near Cairo, and the icons from the Sitt-Damiana convent in Damietta. A red-curtained doorway stands at the center of the iconostasis.

Pope Shenouda III laid the foundation stone in 1998 and the church was consecrated in 2004 to serve the expanding Coptic community in Austria. It has since become an important religious center for believers from the region.

The church is named after the Virgin Mary's reported apparitions above the Zeitoun church in Cairo in 1968, recognized by Coptic Pope Kirellos VI and the Catholic patriarch of the Coptic-united Church. The wooden iconostasis and carved pews come from St. Barsum Monastery near Cairo, the icons from Sitt-Damiana convent in Damietta, and the embroidered central curtain from St. George's Monastery in Biba.

The church is located at Quadenstraße 4-6 in Vienna's 22nd district and is easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors should wear respectful clothing and observe quiet behavior, as it is an active place of worship for the community.

The church's name references the 1968 Marian apparitions at the Church of Zeitoun in Egypt, witnessed by hundreds of thousands of people. This spiritual connection makes the Vienna church a symbol of Coptic tradition and its global presence.
