Kölner Haus, Mountain hut in Serfaus, Austria.
Kölner Haus is a mountain refuge positioned at 1,965 meters on the slopes near Furgler, offering direct access to ski runs in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis area through nearby cable cars. The facility provides 45 beds distributed across double rooms, shared dormitories, and common sleeping areas, plus bathrooms and internet service on each floor.
The refuge was founded in 1929 by the Rheinland-Cologne section of the German Alpine Club as a shelter for climbers and hikers in the Samnaun Mountains. It evolved from a basic mountain lodge into a modern facility that now welcomes thousands of visitors each year.
The hut brings together visitors from different backgrounds in shared dining and sleeping spaces, where regional Tyrolean cuisine and simple accommodations reflect how mountain shelters have traditionally served as gathering places for outdoor enthusiasts.
Access is easiest via the Komperdell cable car from Serfaus, followed by a short walk of roughly 30 minutes to reach the hut. Plan ahead as opening times shift with the seasons, and weather conditions can affect access during winter months.
The hut earned the Environmental Quality Seal for Alpine Club Huts in 2016, placing it among a small group of mountain lodges meeting strict sustainability standards. This commitment to eco-friendly mountain operations remains uncommon among traditional alpine shelters.
