Kandlkapelle, Heritage chapel in Liesing, Austria.
Kandlkapelle is a small triangular chapel situated near Breitenfurter Straße 198 in the Liesing district. It features Corinthian pilasters and a flat tent roof in neoclassical architectural design.
The chapel was relocated in 1963 from its original location at the intersection of Breitenfurter Straße and Hödlgasse to its current site. This move was necessary due to increasing traffic development in the area.
The chapel displays a representation of Saint John of Nepomuk in a small niche above the portal. This religious figure replaced an earlier wooden cross that depicted the Trinity.
The chapel sits along a line of trees on Breitenfurterstrasse, opposite number 198, and is accessible via Vienna's public transportation in the 23rd district. The location is relatively easy to reach on foot from the nearest stop.
The structure bears the name of Theresia Kandl, who was executed in 1810 at Spinnerin am Kreuz after confessing to murdering her husband Matthias. This historical connection gives the building a poignant personal story.
