Rathaus Klagenfurt is an administrative building occupying the western edge of Neuer Platz, extending across fifteen window axes in length and seven in width. The Renaissance structure features a large portal made of chlorite schist with a rectangular design, rounded arches, and columns topped with spherical elements.
The foundation of the current building was laid between 1580 and 1582 under the direction of Paul Fertig, who served as secretary to the provincial governor. This created one of the city's early Renaissance structures, reflecting Klagenfurt's growing importance.
The town hall serves as a gathering place for city celebrations and official events that shape community life. Its Renaissance facade with the distinctive chlorite schist portal expresses civic importance and remains a visual anchor for the square today.
The building houses municipal administration and is open to the public during regular business hours. Visitors should note that some areas may be reserved for official ceremonies and access could be restricted.
