Nockstein

Nockstein is a mountain summit of about 1,042 meters (3,420 feet) with a steep rock face on its northern side. The peak stands near the Gaisberg region with varying terrain across its slopes.

A mountain cross at the summit stands on a concrete base that has guided people for many generations. The marker has long served as a navigation point for travelers through the Salzkammergut area.

The location holds special meaning for people in surrounding villages who use the trails as part of their outdoor routines. Visitors often meet others at shelters and rest spots along the way.

The climb is moderate and takes about two hours with an elevation gain of around 250 meters (820 feet). Marked trails and parking areas make access straightforward for most visitors.

The north face displays impressive limestone formations that present a climbing challenge. The southern approach winds gently through dense mountain pine forests instead.
