Museum Carnuntinum

The Museum Carnuntinum contains extensive collections of Roman artifacts, including sculptures, tombstones, and everyday items from the ancient city of Carnuntum.

The museum opened its doors on May 27, 1904, in a building designed by architects Friedrich Ohmann and August Kirstein in historicist architectural style.

The exhibits display numerous Roman tombstones, including the Tombstone of Valerius and artifacts depicting Jupiter Heliopolitanus, reflecting the military and religious practices.

The museum charges admission fees of 13 euros for adults and 11 euros for students and seniors, with a recommended visit duration of two hours.

Among the notable pieces, visitors can examine the Egyptianizing portrait of Caracalla and representations of Danubius, the river god of the Roman era.
