Andreas Maurer bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Hainburg an der Donau, Austria
The Andreas Maurer bridge is a cable-stayed structure spanning the Danube between Hainburg an der Donau and Engelhartstetten. The crossing extends over 1800 meters with a main central section of about 228 meters, supported by a tall steel pylon rising approximately 76 meters above water level.
Construction started in 1969 and finished in 1972, with the crossing opening to traffic in 1973. The bridge was named after Andreas Maurer, a former governor of Lower Austria, in 2012.
Two major hiking routes, the East Austrian Border Path and the Lower Austrian State Circular Trail, traverse this engineering structure over the Danube.
The crossing carries the B49 road and provides a clearance of about 13 to 14 meters for river traffic to pass underneath. Pedestrians and cyclists can use the structure and have access on both sides of the Danube.
This is the only Danube crossing between Vienna and Bratislava, making it a crucial link for road traffic across the river. Its strategic location fills a significant gap in the transportation network connecting these two capital cities.
