Pontlatzer Brücke, Heritage bridge in Fließ, Austria.
The Pontlatzer Brücke is a stone bridge spanning the Inn River and connecting the municipalities of Fließ and Prutz in upper Tyrolean area. It carries local traffic between the two banks and serves as a functional link in the valley's road system.
A bridge crossing at this location was first recorded in the 13th century under an earlier name, establishing long-standing connections between the banks. The present stone structure was built in 1899 to replace what came before and improve transit through the valley.
The bronze eagle monument next to the bridge commemorates local military conflicts of the past. Visitors often pass it by without realizing it marks a significant moment in how this community remembers its history.
The bridge is open to foot traffic and vehicle passage from the adjoining municipal areas. It is best viewed on foot from either bank of the river to appreciate both its construction and the surrounding valley landscape.
The name of this bridge became so influential that it was later used for military barracks and street names in other Tyrolean towns. This naming tradition reveals how significant the crossing was to the identity of the upper valley.
