Postalm, Mountain pasture in Obersulzbachtal, Austria

Postalm is a mountain hut in the Venediger Group at the end of the Obersulzbachtal valley, in the municipality of Neukirchen am Großvenediger. It was rebuilt and enlarged in 1928 and has been in the same family for five generations. The hut is currently closed because the operators have retired.

The hut was originally connected to the Gasthaus zur Post in the village below and came into the Ernst family's hands in 1911. The family, formerly named Maier, has run it as a mountain inn ever since.

The hut serves as a gathering point where hikers meet and share their mountain experiences with others. The straightforward hospitality creates an easy-going environment that invites people to linger and rest.

Visitors can reach the hut by walking from the Hopffeldboden parking area through forest trails that are generally clear and easy to follow. The walk takes roughly two and a half hours depending on fitness and pace.

The Postalm's energy project began in May 2007 and won the 2009 Austrian Environmental Prize, the country's highest environmental award. A seminar building opened in 2010 as the starting point of the adjacent Energielehrpfad, an energy teaching trail beside the house. The hut also has its own small hydroelectric plant, built in 1980.
