Schloss Gösting, Baroque castle at the foot of Göstinger Berg, Graz, Austria
Schloss Gösting is a baroque castle at the foot of Göstinger Berg in Graz featuring a symmetrical facade from the mid-18th century. The building has a central block with side wings that connect to two square corner pavilions framed by column arcades.
After a lightning strike destroyed the original castle in 1723, Count Ignaz Maria von Attems commissioned architect Johann Georg Stengg to rebuild it. The new structure was constructed as an orderly baroque residence in the mid-18th century.
The castle served the von Attems family as a summer residence and continues to shape the area's character today. Visitors can see the baroque architectural details on the facade that were typical for wealthy families of the 18th century.
The castle remains privately owned and is visible from outside but not regularly open to the public. Bus lines 40 and 65 stop directly in front of the building, providing convenient access to the property.
The garden layout was transformed from a French to an English style between 1844 and 1845, with some older structures remaining partially intact. This blend of both styles remains visible today in how the grounds are arranged.
