Schloss Irnharting

Schloss Irnharting is a water castle built on two islands in a pond, connected by wooden bridges that span across the water. The complex comprises multiple buildings arranged within this water-surrounded layout, creating a typical medieval fortified arrangement.

The fortress first appeared in written records in 1349 as the residence of Knight Ulrich von Tann, who held it as a fief from the Bishop of Passau. Throughout the following centuries it changed hands several times and underwent multiple periods of rebuilding and enlargement.

The site served as a significant center for the Polheim family and shaped life across the surrounding area for centuries. Visitors can still observe the marks of this heritage in how the buildings are arranged and constructed.
