Schloss Kroisbach, building in Styria, Austria
Schloss Kroisbach, also called Haignitzhof, is a castle in the Mariatrost area of Graz situated on a western slope. The building has a rectangular shape with two floors, two interior courtyards, and a small wooden tower with a bulb-shaped roof on one side.
The castle was built between 1650 and 1655 in the Baroque style by Domenico Rossi for Count Abundio Inzaghi. In the 19th century it was renovated by the Galler family, and in 1965 the west facade underwent restoration.
The castle takes its name from the nearby stream, with 'Bach' meaning watercourse in German. The surrounding area still feels rural and quiet today, with open fields and small gardens that reflect how people once lived and used the land.
The best time to visit is during daylight hours, especially in spring or summer when the weather is pleasant. Parking is available nearby and public transport reaches the area, though it is advisable to check in advance whether the castle is open to visitors.
Inside the castle there are special stoves from the Biedermeier period found in a small corner room on the southeast side. These preserved stoves are a rare witness to domestic life from that era and show how people heated and lived at that time.
