Schloss Lichtenberg

Schloss Lichtenberg is a stone fortress situated on a hilltop at 914 meters elevation in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer. From this location, visitors can see across the surrounding Alpine mountains and valleys of the Salzburg region.

The Lords of Lichtenberg built the original castle structure in the early 13th century as a defensive stronghold above the Saalfelden settlement. This early foundation made it an important military position in the region.
