Schloss Rastenfeld

Schloss Rastenfeld is a noble residence with an irregular octagonal shape and four floors located in Mölbling, Austria. The structure displays Gothic portals that lead to an irregularly shaped inner courtyard with an original rounded-arch main gate.

Wilhelm von Perneck built the castle before 1469, after which it passed to the Bishops of Gurk. The von Feistritz and von Herberstein families later took control of the property.

The chapel inside is dedicated to Saint Johannes Nepomuk and dates from the 18th century. It shows how religious spaces were arranged within noble residences of that era.

The castle sits on a spur of the forested Gunzenberg mountain, roughly 1.5 kilometers north of the village of Meiselding. Its location on an eastern-facing slope offers views and involves some climbing to reach.

The fortification system includes extensive outworks and bailey fortifications with a notable rotating gun port. This shows how castles innovatively adapted their defenses in medieval times.
