Großgmain - Our Lady church

Our Lady church is a Gothic building with pointed arches, tall windows, and stone walls typical of medieval religious architecture in the Salzburg region. Construction was completed around 1500, and the interior was later expanded with Baroque elements in the 1730s.

The building was constructed until the end of the 15th century and served as an important shrine for pilgrims from the surrounding area. A Baroque renovation in 1731 significantly transformed the interior.

The church preserves the devotional image of the Beautiful Madonna from 1395 and paintings by the Master of Großgmain from 1499 that visitors can still view today. These artworks shape the appearance and presence of the interior space.

The building is located on Salzburgerstraße in Großgmain and is accessible to visitors interested in religious art and architecture. It is helpful to check opening hours beforehand, as they may vary by season.

Inside the church are two miracle tablets from 1513 recording prayers that local tradition says were answered through Mary's intercession. These inscriptions offer insight into the popular faith and beliefs of visitors from that period.
