Vogtturm

Vogtturm is a medieval fortified tower in Zell am See featuring thick stone walls and four exhibition floors inside. The building reopened after major renovation with displays of archaeological discoveries, regional artworks, and information about local economic development.

Built during the High Middle Ages, the tower served as a control point along an important trade route. Officials there monitored travelers and collected road tolls on behalf of the crown.

The name comes from the medieval 'Vogt', the official who represented royal authority in the region. Inside today, you can see works by local artists alongside displays of how people lived and worked in earlier times.

The tower is within walking distance from the center of Zell am See and sits just near the lakeside promenade. Exhibitions span four floors, so wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to explore each level properly.

The tower features a special exhibition about the design legacy of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the famous car designer. His studio has deep connections to the Salzburg region and shaped its cultural scene for many decades.
