Castle Saalhof

Castle Saalhof is a medieval fortress in Maishofen, Austria, built at an elevation of 766 meters. It features vaulted ceilings and interior woodwork made from Swiss stone pine.

The fortress dates from the 11th century, with the first documented owner recorded as Oswald Eisenstang in 1423. Major renovations took place around 1600, shaping the structure that stands today.

The castle operates a working farm producing milk, eggs, cheese, jams, honey, and homemade schnapps that reflect local traditions. This agricultural activity connects the place to the daily life and heritage of the Pinzgau region.

Visitors can stay in renovated apartments inside the castle and enjoy direct access to hiking trails and skiing in the Pinzgau region. The location offers convenient access to outdoor activities for those who want to explore the mountains.

A marble relief carved in 1606 sits above the main entrance, marking the Renaissance renovations of that period. This artwork remains visible today, showing how the castle was transformed during the Renaissance era.
