Schloss Kammer, Cultural heritage castle in Maishofen, Austria

Description

Schloss Kammer is a white stone building in the Pinzgauer mountains featuring multiple towers and traditional architecture. The estate includes a private garden, guest accommodations in farm buildings, and a historic shooting lodge that has operated on the grounds.

History

Baron Dietrich von Kuen-Belasy founded the estate in 1582 after purchasing land from Peter Kammerer and constructing a chapel on the grounds. The property developed over centuries, combining residential spaces with farming operations that continue today.

Culture

The restaurant serves regional Austrian dishes prepared with ingredients from the castle's surrounding farmland and producers in the nearby valley. Visitors dining here experience food that reflects centuries of local farming traditions still practiced on the estate today.

Practical

Accommodations are spread across multiple buildings including the main castle and adjacent farm houses, along with an Alpine sauna and natural swimming pond. The estate sits in a rural location with walking paths connecting the different areas and amenities.

Did you know?

The shooting lodge dates to 1899 and historically served as a training ground for marksmen using black powder rifles on a 120-meter range. This sporting tradition reflects the hunting heritage associated with aristocratic estates in the Alpine region.
